Diabetes Mellitus Disease

Diabetes mellitus is clinical syndrome characterized by hyperglycemia due to reduce insulin secretion or reduce insulin action deficiency of insulin.
There are mainly two types of Diabetes mellitus. They are-
  • Type 1 diabetes
  • Type 2 diabetes
Type 1 diabetes is principally a disease of the young age.
Type 2 diabetes is principally a disease of the middle age and elderly.

Factors responsible for Type 1 DM:
Genetic factors:The major susceptibility gene for type 1 DM is located in the HLA region of chromosome 6.

Environmental factors:(1)A major constituent of cow's milk has been implicated in triggering type 1 diabetes.(2)Hygiene hypothesis reduced exposure to micro-organisms in early childhood limits maturation of the immune system and increases susceptibility to auto immune disease.(3)Stress may precipitate type 1 diabetes by stimulating  the secretion of counter regulatory hormones and possibly by modulating immune activity.
